WCB refused to sponsor a retraining program for an injured truck dispatcher who wanted to return to work as a welder, saying that welding work wasn’t compatible with his post-injury physical abilities. The Appeals Commission reversed the ruling. The most recent physical evaluations, the surgeon’s assessment and the performance report all suggested the dispatcher was physically capable of doing welding work, it found Decision No. 2012-273, [2012] CanLII 14896 (AB WCAC), March 21, 2012].
