OK to Fire Postal Worker for Insubordination & Refusing Training

A postal worker was fired for refusing to attend training and calling her supervisor a “******* liar” on the work floor. The union filed a grievance but to no avail. Demanding that the worker attend training was important and consistent with previous practice; the worker’s language to a supervisor was unacceptable; she had previously been suspended 5 days for insubordination; and her alleged concerns about her safety if she attended the training lacked credibility [Canada Post Corp. v. Canadian Union of Postal Workers (Torpy Grievance), [2012] C.L.A.D. No. 380, Dec. 14, 2012].
