New Laws

Feb 16: From now through March 10, the GN Department of Family Services will be accepting proposals for targeted employment training programs to be delivered in the 2023-2024 fiscal year, which begins on April 1. Priority will go to programs for the disabled, out-of-school youth ages 15 to 30, miner sector and supervisory and management training.

Feb 8: Nunavut and Newfoundland signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to work together to promote social and economic development, trade and other areas of mutual interest.

Labour Relations

Feb 24: Second Reading for Bill 20, which would amend the Public Service Act to resolve a discrepancy in the French and English versions of the law to clarify that the Minister may designate only a part of a day as a holiday.

New Laws

Feb 20: The CRA launched a pilot project to make it easier for NWT, Nunavut and Yukon residents to determine the lowest return airfare for purposes of claiming the Northern Residents Travel Deduction on their income tax returns.
