In Feb., the Ontario MOL reported on the results of its October 2011 inspection “blitz” focusing on the use of personal protective equipment in the workplace:
- 826 workplaces inspected
- 2,495 orders issued including 86 of the dreaded stop-work variety
- Only 3.3% of citations were for failure to use PPE
- Most common citations: employer’s failure to ensure PPE properly maintained and furnish adequate instruction and supervision of PPE use.
