Hello, If an employee confides that they are a victim of domestic abuse, however they don’t want to go to the police, what obligations does a HR professional have? Are we required to report to the police, is that a violation of Privacy, is there Human Rights or OH&S concerns? We are located in Alberta. I appreciate any advice you may have.

“The law doesn’t hold you responsible for protecting your employees from domestic violence; it holds you responsible for protecting them from domestic violence while they’re in the workplace.
    THE RULE
If an employer is aware or should be aware that a worker is at risk of domestic violence in the workplace, it must take every reasonable precaution to protect the worker and others in danger while on work premises.”
