LAWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

New Laws

Jul 11: The Interprovincial Trade and Mobility Act (ITMA) and regulations took effect. Result: Goods, services, and labour credentials that meet licensing and regulatory standards in their home jurisdiction will be deemed to meet the necessary criteria in Prince Edward Island. The ITMA also introduces a 10-day service standard to expedite licensing decisions for applicants from participating jurisdictions.

New Laws

Jun 23: The federal government announced over $1.5 million in funding to support three tourism businesses in Eastern PEI: i. $804,000 to Rodd Brudenell River Resort to modernize guest accommodations; ii. $400,000 to Oyster Creek Chalets for the addition of eight new high-end chalets; and iii. $302,000 to 45 Steps - the Culinary Beachside Inn to add a guest room and separate building to help with back-of-house inn operations.

Workplace Harassment

Jun 26: The PEI Public Schools Branch (PSB) and La Commission scolaire de langue française (CSLF) adopted a new sexual misconduct policy to improve student safety, enhance staff training on detecting signs of sexual misconduct, provide for early intervention, and implement consistent standards for handling complaints in schools across the province.

Drugs & Alcohol

Jun 29: PEI released a Provincial Alcohol Strategy to reduce alcohol‑related harms across the province. Among other measures, the new Strategy establishes an interdepartmental committee led by Health and Wellness to ensure coordinated action across the government.
