Training 

Feb 16: Nonprofits, municipal governments, and individuals in Nunavut can now apply for Nunavut Mine Training Fund (NMTF) support for community-based training initiatives in the mining industry and related fields. Examples of eligible training programs include pre-employment, introduction to mining, environmental monitoring, and operation of heavy equipment. Deadline to apply: March 31.   

Health & Safety 

Jan 26: The Nunavut Fire Marshal reminded residents that unsafe use of portable heaters and other heating devices are a common cause of house fires during the winter. Precautions include keeping heaters at least a metre away from things that can burn, like furniture, bedding, clothing, or curtains, rather than under beds, desks, or directly against walls.

Workers' Compensation 

Jan 1: The WSCC's Daily Meal and Incidental Allowances for injured workers in Nunavut in 2026 are: $23.16 for breakfast ($16.27 for travel in Canada or the US outside Northwest Territories or Nunavut), $35.79 for lunch ($20.08), $46.45 for dinner ($34.54), and $17.30 for incidentals ($17.30).
