a portion of our current sick leave policy reads as follows:

If an employee is absent due to illness for three or more consecutive days, he or she is required to provide a medical certificate which states the expected date of return to work.

My question is what is the current trend in terms of the # of days employees can be off sick before providing a medical note. Is it 2,3, more than 3? Please let me know

Most organizations have adopted a “more than 2 consecutive days” require a medical note.

If you are going to make a change to your policy, now would also be a good time to look at your attendance policy. You cannot discipline an employee for being ill, but having a clear attendance policy can help you to control capacity.
