Sexual Harassment Policy

Sexual harassment is any unwelcome verbal or physical behaviour based on sex or gender.

Sexual harassment in the workplace can undermine the victim’s sense of dignity and their ability to do their job effectively. It can create an unhealthy environment even for employees who are not directly involved, and can lead to violent behaviour if it is left unaddressed.

Every employee across Canada has the right to be free from unwelcome sexual and gender-based comments and advances in the workplace. Likewise, employers across Canada have a duty to ensure that their employees are safe from sexual harassment and assault in the work environment.

An effective sexual harassment policy encourages equality and diversity; reduces liability and low morale; and helps ensure a safe, positive and productive workplace for everyone.

HR managers in any part of the country can adapt this Model Policy for use at their own workplace.
