Minimum Wage Employee Must Be Paid for After-Shift Work

A campground convenience store clerk who worked from 10 AM to 10 PM for minimum wage was required to close up shop after her shift ended. She claimed that the employer refused to pay her for the additional 11 to 43 minutes she had to work to complete that task. The court believed her story. And because under Nova Scotia law, minimum wage employees are entitled to be paid one-half hour for every 15 to 30 minutes worked and one hour for every 30 to 60 minutes worked, she was due 7.5 hours’ worth of wages for the time [Webb v. Spry Bay Campgrounds and Cabins,  2015 NSLB 26 (CanLii), May 15, 2015].
