Do I have to pay employees who do not do their timesheet?

We just implemented an online timesheet, some employees are refusing to complete their time entry by deadline date saying we "have to pay them anyway". Can you advise on employer rights?

While you can't withhold pay, you can and should implement discipline to the extent the employees' refusal is unreasonable and significantly interferes with your payroll operations. Hopefully, you have HR policies or codes of conduct requiring employees to cooperate and complete necessary payroll and other organizational documentation. I trust these are non-union employees, right? If they are union, contact the union rep and get clarification to see if you're dealing with some kind of job action. Hope that helps. Glenn
