Company, Corporate Director Fined $100,000 for Disobeying Wage Order

A newspaper and advertising company didn’t comply with an Order to Pay Wages issued by an Employment Standards officer. As a result, it got socked with an ESA fine of $90,000, plus a 25% victims’ surcharge. A corporate officer was also fined $10,000 for the offence. The defendants might have come out ahead considering that the Order was for over $500,000 in unpaid wages, including a $341,000 unpaid balance [Norstar Times Inc., Govt.
